LINE-UP
The line-up for Glass Butter Beach 2011 is set to entertain in a big way. Reggae legends Aswad join chart topping new kids Rizzle Kicks after a major slice of comedy & magic from award winning Piff the Magic Dragon, Then there’s big welsh dance pop heros Friends Electric supporting A-list entertainers The Cuban Brothers, a big slice of glamour & fun from Goldierocks and the next big D&B act Drumsound & Bassline Smith all head the line-up that boasts outstanding national, regional & local talent that are crammed into 2 days of noon to midnight festival celebration.
ASWAD: After fifteen albums and two decades on the music scene, ASWAD remains one of Britain’s best-loved reggae bands. Led by the trio of Brinsley “Dan” Forde (on vocals and rhythm guitar), Angus “Drummie Zeb” Gaye (on vocals and drums), and Tony “Gad” Robinson (on bass) , Aswad is renowned among reggae fans for their rich melodies and compelling harmonies, woven over hard rhythm tracks and inspired horn riffs. http://www.youtube.com/aswadshine
RIZZLE KICKS: Currently in the charts with infectious 3rd single ‘Down With The Trumpets’ Brighton-based BRIT school pair Rizzle Kicks are rekindling a fire that should have never been allowed to get low… it’s a fire that used to burn brightly with Lily Allen, Dizzee Rascal and Gorillaz making summery post-hip-hop tunes that had you dancing in the fields. Sylvester and Rizzle, the two young lads who make up Rizzle Kicks are here to bring that back. http://www.myspace.com/rizzlekicks

CUBAN BROTHERS: It’s long been said that Cubans sing when they speak, dance when they walk and woo with a love song so it should be of little surprise that The Cuban Brothers’ peerless funk soul review blends sexy, soulful music, with jaw-dropping b-boy action and riotous comedy. From humble beginnings Miguel Mantovani, Archerio Mantovani and Kengo San have built Los Hermanos Cubanos – The Cuban Brothers – into a legendary outfit that continuously sells out shows across the globe. http://www.myspace.com/thecubanbrothers
BENJAMIN FRANCIS LEFTWICH: Following the release of his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Last Smoke Before The Snowstorm’ Benjamin Francis Leftwich prepares to release his second single ‘Atlas Hands’ on the weekend of Glass Butter Beach. A track filled with wistful beauty and poetic elegance, Atlas Hands further proves that the excitement surrounding Ben as one of the most compelling new prospects of the year is justified. Ben’s haunting vocals and intricate guitar provide the narration for a track driven by a fragile tale of escape and hope. http://www.myspace.com/benjaminfrancisleftwich
FRIENDS ELECTRIC: Welsh synth addicts Friends Electric answer Gary Numan’s question defiantly: yes, yes we are. Undulating electronic chords swarm their robotic melodies, providing a beat-addled version of easy listening synth pop. Choruses languish in the splashing rivers of trance-inspired sound. The quartet seem intent on just filling nightclubs and festival tents with night lights. Let them. Hit single ‘Golden Blood’ and ‘Something You Should Know’ have been described as a ‘shimmering synth-laden outing with a big pop heart’ and received serious airplay from Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens and Jen Long. http://www.myspace.com/friendselectricmusic
PIFF THE MAGIC DRAGON: is our hidden treat for the GBB.11 crowd. Well not so hidden now after being labelled the stand out show of the 2011 Edinburgh Festival, huge success on the Penn & Teller show and with 2 weeks to go till Glass Butter Beach he’s just performed live on Radio 1. This guy is brilliant & will perform on both the Sunkist Beach Stage and the Glass Main Stage on Saturday 3rd September.
GOLDIEROCKS: spends her time invading festivals and after-parties all over the world with her unique blend of festival chic, bassy remix and wonky electro. Recently making her debut presenting on BBC Radio 1, somehow she also finds time to host her weekly international radio show The Selector, the best in new British music to over 30 countries from Indie to Grime, Dubstep to Disco, Rock to Soul and everything in-between.
COWBOIS RHOS BOTWNNOG: Imagine if the Beach Boys if they weren’t from California or maybe if Phoenix weren’t the cool French kids from Versailles. There’s something comforting in the knowledge that Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog hail from a tiny village amid the rolling countryside of the Llyn peninsula, Wales. Rhos Botwnnog commons in north-west Wales to be exact. http://www.myspace.com/cowboisrhosbotwnnog
THE KICKBACKS: Kickbacks are a three piece acoustic band, originating from Abersoch, North Wales. Formed back in 2009 they have since been gathering a following through playing gigs locally and in the North West of England. Aaron, Tom and Sam are three friends who have grown up together so they have a natural feel for the music they are trying to create. Notable gigs so far include Wakestock 2010 and 2011, The Cavern Club Liverpool. From that the band have been invited and are now looking forward to playing at the 02 Academy Liverpool.Making noise in the unsigned scene this band is a must see in 2011. http://www.myspace.com/thekickbacks
PETE LAWRIE: “I’ve always listened to singer-songwriters, but I really love hip-hop as well,” says Lawrie. “I love everything from DJ Shadow and Four Tet to Roots Manuva or even Jay-Z, but I grew up listening to my mum’s Motown records and soul music too. My dad’s thing was Paul Simon and Elton John so all that’s in there too. There’s probably not much hip-hop left on my album, but you can hear the influences.” http://www.myspace.com/petelawrie
TIM LYALL: Tim’s DJ career is epic with gigs throughout the summer at Privilege, Ibiza, Slinky @ Eden, the Tidy Weekender, and Tim also has also taken his diverse talents once again to Nature One Fest in Germany, as well as his regular slots at superclub brand Slinky. Tim’s talents have been clocked by numerous radio shows where he has guest mixed for stations including Fire FM, BPM, and Ministry of Sound Radio. We welcome Mr Lyall back to Gwynedd, a place he loves and has been DJing in since 1999. http://www.myspace.com/timlyall
BRANDON BLOCK: Brandon is probably the most entertaining DJ and personality you’ll ever find. He is best known for his uplifting party house music behind the decks, and his infamous havoc causing antics on the other side of the turntables. Brandon’s taste is eclectic and when it comes to pleasing the dance floor, he will play anything that will move the crowd. Be warned…be prepared, Brandon is always guaranteed to rock the party.
SATURDAY NIGHT HEROS: Saturday Night Heroes is the collaboration of two old skool house DJ’s James Worthington & Andy Southall. Saturday Night Heroes have been DJing since the early 90’s and in recent years became frustrated with how the dance music industry was going, so decided to ditch their CD’s, iPod’s and laptops and move back to playing on traditional vinyl. With the recent revival of old skool classic house sets, the pair have taken clubs by storm. So if you want to get all nostalgic and hear some spine tingling house music anthems, make sure check out Saturday Night Heroes…..
EZ & DJ BUZZWORD: Ez and DJ Buzzword are a hip-hop duo currently based in Shropshire. DJ Buzzword’s tracks are original, funky and full of hooks that won’t let you go. Ez’s Lyrics are equally funny, thoughtful and vicious; spitting flows on subjects from girls to working in a burger bar. Whether working together, or collaborating with other artists, the quality of their music and lyrics is top notch.
DEAF BY DISCO: is the collective name for Jess Hughes & Nick Wakefield. You can hear their innovative blend of disco, electronica & tech-house in their bi-monthly mixes and at their club nights of the same name in North Wales.
